Clinically, Dr. Madsen has a particular interest in surgery. He has since added dentistry and advanced oral surgery to his list of professional strengths. As he describes it: “there is something extremely satisfying about using my hands to remove infection and disease and help the body to heal.”

Dr. Madsen met his wife while the two were in the fifth grade, though they didn’t start dating until college. Over the course of their marriage, the couple has welcomed nine children and three grandchildren. During the pandemic, the Madsens had to say goodbye to their cat and two dogs, all of whom were in their golden years.

When he’s not busy helping to run the clinic, Dr. Madsen is an avid outdoorsman. His preferred activities include rappelling, canyoneering, backpacking, and kayaking. He also enjoys woodworking and spending quality time with his family.

Dr. Carl Bockenstedt

DVM
Dr. Carl Bockenstedt grew up on a family farm in Iowa as the tenth of thirteen children, where his love for animals began at an early age. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1989 and went on to work in two veterinary practices before purchasing his own clinic in 1997, which he owned and operated for 23 years.

In 2019, Dr. Bockenstedt and his family relocated to Springville, Utah. After six and a half years with another local practice, he joined the Family Pet Hospital team.

Dr. Bockenstedt and his wife, Leslie, have seven children, six grandchildren, and two boxers who keep them busy at home. When he’s not caring for patients, he enjoys reading, jogging, and playing pickleball. He considers veterinary medicine more than just a career—it’s a lifelong passion and way of life.

Dr. Macdonald

Veterinarian
Dr. Macdonald joined Family Pet Hospital in January 2024 after her family relocated to be closer to her husband’s work. Her journey into veterinary medicine began with a simple suggestion from her childhood veterinarian — a comment that grew into a lifelong passion. Over the years, she discovered she wanted a career rooted in problem-solving and compassion, one where she could help animals and support the people who love them.

One defining moment in her childhood solidified that path: when one of her horses was seriously injured at a show, she watched a calm, compassionate veterinarian bring comfort to both her horse and her family. That experience stayed with her and shaped the kind of veterinarian she strives to be today.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal and Veterinary Sciences from the University of Wyoming and later completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University. Dr. Macdonald loves working through complex cases, piecing together clues to understand what her patients need. She also values the relationships she builds with clients, partnering with families to find solutions that fit both their pets’ health and their unique circumstances.

Dr. Macdonald grew up on her family’s ranch in southeast Wyoming, where caring for animals was simply part of daily life. She now lives in Mapleton with her husband and their four children, along with a lively menagerie of horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, fish, and even a bearded dragon.

Outside of work, she enjoys horseback riding and reading — two hobbies that perfectly balance activity and quiet. Some of her favorite memories include taking her children on their first real trail ride and watching their confidence bloom. She also loves volunteering in 4H and Cub Scouts, helping youth develop new skills and discover their own strengths.

One of her most lighthearted moments in practice was examining a patient while her toddler “assisted,” proudly listening in with her stethoscope.
